Do I need an authorization to open a café in Morocco?
There is no single national café operating authorization. The verified obligations are food hygiene under law 28-07 as soon as you handle food, and any local authorizations from your municipality. We review your city's rules before opening.
What about my terrace?
Terraces and public domain use fall under a municipal regime. Ask your municipality about the applicable authorization and fee; your Charikaty legal advisor helps you build the file.
What hygiene obligations for my coffee shop?
As soon as the café prepares, handles, stores or sells food, law 28-07 applies: guarantee safe products, set up a self-monitoring programme or an approved good-practice guide (article 9) and ensure traceability (article 12). Sanctions under articles 25, 26 and 28 go up to 100,000 DH and 6 months in prison.
Does my commercial lease protect my café?
Yes, if it is signed in your company's name. Law 49-16 gives you a right to renewal: if the landlord refuses without legal grounds, they owe you an eviction indemnity. Your Charikaty legal advisor reviews the lease before you sign.
What VAT for my café?
10% with the right to deduct input VAT: article 99-B-1° of the 2026 Tax Code expressly covers operations carried out by café operators. Your Charikaty accountant sets up the regime from registration.
